On your mark… Get set… READ! That is the theme for this year’s Summer Reading Program at the Cedartown Library. The program begins May 31st and will run through July 23rd. Children and teens aged birth to 18 are eligible to participate.
On Opening Day, May 31st, Barry Stewart Mann, a storyteller from Atlanta, will be sharing stories about Lucky Louie’s Lazy Day at 11:00 AM and there will be a Reading Field Day at 2:00 PM, weather permitting. Many other exciting shows and activities are scheduled throughout the summer.
Summer reading is a vital part of a child’s education; without practicing the reading skills they have worked on in school, children tend to lose the achievement gains they have made over the course of the year. The Cedartown Library and other public libraries across the country work to prevent this “summer slide” by providing a program that encourages children to read.
For more information, come by the Cedartown Library or call us at (770) 748-5644. And don’t forget to run, bike, or swim to come sign your children and grandchildren up for the Summer Reading Program, starting May 31st!
