POSITION: Branch Manager – Rockmart Library
JOB SUMMARY: This full time position is responsible for managing the operation of the
Rockmart Public Library.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Manages the daily operation of the Rockmart Public Library, including
administering the budget, supervising personnel, maintaining the library
collection and the library building.
- Registers new patrons, checks materials in and out, collects fees for
overdue materials, collects materials from the book drop, and shelves
materials.
- Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates employees.
- Prepares monthly reports on circulation.
- Prepares bank statements and keeps daily records of monies collected
and disbursed.
- Orders and purchases supplies and equipment.
- Assists patrons with reference questions.
- Plans and conducts library programs for children, teens, and adults.
- Plans and designs bulletin boards and displays.
- Represents and promotes the library in the community.
- Schedules and organizes meeting room spaces.
- Acts as a liaison to the City of Rockmart and Rockmart Schools.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
- Knowledge of library policy and procedure.
- Skill in management and supervision.
- Skill in oral and written communication
- Strong technological skills: experienced with working in a Chrome
environment; printing, copying, and scanning skills, knowledgeable in
website navigation; skills in using PINES for searches and circulation.
- Knowledge of all collections owned by the library system.
- Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal system.
- Knowledge of reference sources in book, periodical, and online format.
- Skill in public relations.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:
The Director assigns work in terms of general instructions that require use of judgment.
Work is reviewed through reports and observation of branch operations for compliance
with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results of the work.
GUIDELINES:
Guidelines include library board by-laws and accepted library practices. These guidelines
are generally clear and specific, but may require interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY:
This position involves managing the operation of a branch library. The variety of duties
performed and the chance of conflicting guidelines contribute to the complexity of the
work.
SCOPE AND EFFECT:
The purpose of this position is to manage the operation of a branch library. Successful
performance in this position assures that library services are provided to the community,
which enhances the quality of life for citizens and promotes a positive public image of the
library.
PERSONAL CONTACTS:
Contacts are typically with library personnel, the City of Rockmart employees /
commissioners, business and civic groups, salespeople and the general public.
PURPOSE OF CONTACTS:
Contacts are typically to give and exchange information, resolve problems, motivate
employees and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position requires intermittent standing, sitting, walking, reaching, bending or
crouching. The employee must frequently lift light objects; occasionally life heavy
objects climb ladders, and use tools requiring manual dexterity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is typically performed in a library setting but may include travel to meetings,
conferences, the headquarters library and branches.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY:
This position has direct supervision over Library Assistant I and part-time employees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university/college or 5 years library experience.
Sufficient experience to understand basic principles relevant to the major duties of the
position and the mission of library service.
